Fruit Ninja by Halfbrick Studios
iPhone Application Game
Fruit
Ninja is one of the most popular games for the iPhone with over 10 million
copies downloaded. Starting out as a game for the iPhone versions have also
been developed for other smartphones, tablets, the Xbox 360 Kinect and a
web-based version on Facebook.
The
gameplay consists of slicing fruits that appear on your screen with your
finger. The more fruits are sliced the higher a score you get. Extra points can
be achieved by slicing multiple fruits at once creating combos. In the main
mode you must slice all the fruits on the screen, if you miss one you lose a
life. After losing three lives the game ends. If you hit a bomb the game ends
instantly. In some of the other modes there aren’t any lives but time limits
instead.
When
first entering the game you are presented with a main menu where you have four
choices. You go forward from here by slicing through the fruit that has your
choice on it. If you haven’t touched the screen a small animation shows a hand
slicing through the New Game selection, indicating how to proceed.
After
slicing New Game you are given another four choices, this time Mode Selection.
Once again another animation appears on how to select a mode. I chose Classic
as this sounds like what could be considered a regular version of the game.
When
you first enter a mode there aren’t any instructions on how to play. You are
thrown into action at once, and unless you’re intuitive it isn’t very clear
what to do. As I had already sliced two fruits in order to enter the mode I
understand that the main function of the game is to slice fruit. Once you
figure this out the game isn’t complicated. You have to slice as many fruits as
possible without dying. The goal of the game is to post high scores, try to
beat other people or just beat your own personal record.
In
order to actually read what the game is about you have to first go through to
Extras and then about About.
